Young Romanian causes antiterrorist alert in an Austrian university due to toy gun

A Romanian caused a security alert at a university campus in the Austrian city of Graz after witnesses have alerted police about the presence of an individual with a firearm. Police discovered it was actually a toy gun.

The incident took place in the campus of the Polytechnic University of Graz, in south-eastern Austria, the Kleine Zeitung website informs.

In the context of special security measures taken on the background of terrorist risks, police teams quickly intervened in the campus.

The police have found a 24-year-old Romanian, homeless, who was carrying a toy gun. The gun could be mistaken for a real weapon if seen from the distance.

According to the site Steiermark.ORF.at, the Romanian said he had found the gun in a trash container and has come to the university to buy a can of Coke from a vending machine.

Following the incident, the Romanian has been banned from approaching the campus, but was not detained.
