Between September 17 and 22, Alpin Film Festival transforms Brașov and its surroundings into an epicenter of mountain culture, a harmonious interweaving of art, adventure and sustainability, becoming the host of an exceptional international festival.
In 2024, the Alpin Film Festival concept took shape through a selection of 41 spectacular films, complemented by 25 related events and the presence, at the festival, of over 50 renowned guests. “Altitude Attitude!” is the slogan that describes this festival land, where art, multiculturalism, respect for nature and the desire for ascension merge organically, reaching its peak at the 9th edition.
Access to all events and activities within Alpin Film Festival 2024 is free, and participation in screenings will be based on a reservation through the Eventbook.ro platform. The complete program and all organizational details are available at www.alpinfilmfestival.ro.
Among the highlights of this edition are films awarded at prestigious international festivals, as well as very new Romanian and foreign productions. In the preview of the festival, on September 16, at Cinema One, the public will be able to enjoy “Wild Transylvania”, a screening made in the presence of the well-known photographer and director Dan Dinu. The Irish documentary explores the unique wilderness in the heart of Transylvania.
Then, the Closing Gala on September 21 will bring us another international award-winning film, “Full Circle” (USA), directed by Josh Berman, winner of the 2023 Banff Grand Trophy. French productions dedicated to the climbing and victory of climbers in extreme contexts are complemented by the films “Mongolia, Valley of the Bears”, directed by Hamid Sardar, and “Un Pasteur”, directed by Louis Hanquet, which explore the deep and often difficult relationship between humans and the wild in who live diversifying the approach of feature films in the INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION.
THE ROMANIAN COMPETITION presents a selection of productions that explore the beauty and variety of Romania’s spectacular landscapes, or that sound the alarm about certain chaotically managed aspects, such as animal abuse, pollution or uncontrolled deforestation (OURS – THE MOVIE or BEARS UNCOVERED). Alpin Film Festival 2024 brings to the public’s attention the still wild beauty of the relief and local biodiversity, through new Romanian productions, such as “Tinutul Zimbrului” (directed by Dan Dinu), “Banatul Montan – Magia Zăpezii” (directed by Sabin Dorohoi) or “Water and Sole ” – documentary directed by Mircea Gherase, which follows the Via Transilvanica route, revealing an authentic Romania, deeply connected with nature.
Keeping his role as an ambassador of Romanian landscapes and traditions, the British journalist and director Charley Ottley returns to the Alpin Film Festival with “Discover Oltenia”. The short film is an extension of the documentary series that made Romania known abroad, bringing into focus the cultural wealth, the diversity of flora and fauna, but also the underestimated power of ecotourism.
