Art Safari starts the revolution

60 galleries and cultural institutions from Romania and abroad, five private collections on display for the first time and a central exhibition of 350 pieces dedicated to the Dada Centenary will make the art lovers doubt everything they know within Art Safari exhibition, according the organizers’ press release.

The third edition of Bucharest Art Pavilion – Art Safari, the largest art exhibition in Romania, organized in partnership with Bucharest City Hall and under the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO patronage, opened on Thursday, May 5th and is hosted at Dacia-Romania Palace until May 15. The monument buidling is located in Bucharest’s Old Town on 18-20 Lipscani street.

The largest art exhibition in Romania is set to generate inconvenient questions against society and art, against traditional norms and bourgeois sensibilities for the upcoming ten days.

During this time, Bucharest will be embedded in art, heritage, modern and contemporary. Alongside the main exhibition, dedicated to Dada centenary, and modern and contemporary art galleries, a series of Art Safari dedicated spaces will be hosting conferences, theatre performances, The Space project, dedicated to young debuting artists, as well as children’s workshops. There will be even an “interstellar dialogue” among famous astronauts, among whom also Dumitru Prunariu, broadcast by Discovery Channel.

The newest active galleries such as Balamuc, AICC, Borderline Art Space, Pilat Gallery, Nostru Group add to the already known ones like Anca Poterașu Gallery, Annart Gallery, Laborna Contemporary Art Gallery, Art Yourself, Galateca, Jecza.

Galleries exhibiting for the first time in Bucharest are joining the show, coming from Timișoara, Botoșani, Craiova, Iași, Oradea, Sibiu, Miercurea Ciuc, Bistrița or the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy and Switzerland.

New contemporary art galleries from Bucharest, such as Mobius Gallery and Conceptual Lab – Mixology for Ideas, as well as Nostru, artist-run space from Sibiu, will exhibit their exquisite art works this year. Dada in Romania and the Spirit of the Avant-garde, main exhibition curated by Raya Zommer-Tal, Director of Janco-Dada Museum in Ein Hod, Israel, and Research Curator Igor Mocanu, specialist Romanian Avant-garde will present important works from museums and private collections in Romania: Victor Brauner, Arthur Segal, Ion Bitzan, Tristan Tzara, Jean David, Brassaï, Jules Perahim, Max Ernst​, Hans Janos Mattis-Teutsch, Margareta Sterian, Ion Grigorescu.

Art Safari’s visitors will also have a Brâncuși-label suprise, with further details being granted on the venue.

From May 6 to May 15, the Pavilion will be open daily from noon to 9 pm, except for Saturdays, when it will stay open until midnight. Tickets for May 6-15 are on sale online and in the exhibition space.
