The Bucharest International Film Festival (BIFF) reaches its 21st edition this year, continuing its mission of bringing the most acclaimed international productions to film enthusiasts in Romania and abroad. Scheduled to take place between September 19-28, 2025, the festival promises a unique cinematic experience.
As Bucharest’s only feature film competition, BIFF 2025 will present a remarkable national premiere selection across its five sections:
- Feature Film Competition
- Short Film Section
- Panorama
- Romanian Authors
- History and Cinema
An international jury, composed of distinguished figures from the film industry, will designate the winners, further cementing the festival’s reputation as a key reference in the European cinematic landscape.
A Legacy of Excellence
Over its two-decade history, BIFF has established itself as one of Romania’s most significant cultural events. The festival has been honored by the presence of renowned figures such as Andrei Konchalovsky, Amos Gitai, Danis Tanovic, Rutger Hauer, Jerzy Skolimowski, Jan Harlan, Radu Mihăileanu, Franco Nero, and Vanessa Redgrave.
The previous edition was a resounding success, featuring 30 film premieres and special events that attracted over 40,000 spectators.
BIFF is organized by Fundația Charta and Asociația Culturală “Grigore Vasiliu Birlic”, under the High Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania, with support from the Ministry of Culture. This prestigious endorsement highlights the festival’s role in promoting cinematic art and fostering international cultural dialogue.
A Royal Perspective
His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania:
“In one way or another, the Romanian Crown has stood alongside national cinema for three centuries—the 19th, 20th, and 21st. This cultural and civic bond holds profound significance in our country’s modern history.
For two decades, I have been happy and proud to witness the atmosphere and professionalism that the Bucharest International Film Festival generates year after year, bringing together connoisseurs of the Seventh Art and film lovers of all ages.
Since 2005, the festival has navigated a long road—facing challenges, at times met with indifference or neglect—yet always driven by determination, courage, dedication to cinema, integrity, modesty, and discretion.
Above all, the festival team’s spirit has shone through—always generous, voluntary, energetic, open to society, to others, and to new horizons.”
With a captivating program and renowned guests, BIFF 2025 promises an unforgettable edition, designed to delight and inspire film lovers. The festival reaffirms its commitment to showcasing high-quality cinema and transforming Bucharest into an epicenter of international cinematic art for ten days.
