Call for projects – Romanian Design Week 2024

Romanian Design Week, the largest festival of creative industries in Romania, organized by The Institute, opens the call for project submissions for the RDW Exhibition 2024 for the categories of Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Product Design, Fashion Design, and Illustration.

Romanian designers and architects are invited to submit projects completed in the past year in one of the six exhibition categories: Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Product Design, Fashion Design, and Illustration. The deadline for project submissions is November 3, 2023. The creatives can submit their latest projects by completing the participation form available here, after consulting the participation regulations, which can be accessed here.

Over the past 12 years, Romanian Design Week has become the most comprehensive festival dedicated to the creative and cultural industries in Romania. Continuing the initiative from the previous year to gather and promote as many outstanding projects as possible, the RDW Exhibition format brings together over 150 local experts in this year’s selection process, forming the RDW Community, together with six teams of local and international curators. The RDW Community is composed annually of participants from the previous festival edition, along with the authors of the projects presented in the online portfolio archive of the same edition.

This entire initiative intends to connect as many specialists as possible with Romania’s current architecture and design scene and collectively raise the standards of local projects. Both the RDW Community members and curator teams change each year, ensuring a fresh vision for each festival edition.

The selection process consists of two stages: in the first stage, specialists gathered in the RDW Community will validate the submitted projects, forming a selection base from which the curators of the edition will choose the participants in the physical exhibition from May 24 to June 2 in Bucharest.

Projects validated by the RDW Community will be promoted throughout the year on romaniandesignweek.ro and the online communication channels of Romanian Design Week and The Institute.

The theme of Romanian Design Week 2024: Unlock the City
The 2024 edition of Romanian Design Week aims to explore how creativity and innovation can shape the cities of the future and contribute to the exploration of Bucharest, its potential, layers, creative spaces, and cultural organizations or projects that animate and define them. The edition will invite Bucharest’s inhabitants to discover the creative specificities of various areas in the city, explore unique design projects and multidisciplinary approaches, and contribute to defining dialogue spaces, thus demonstrating the importance of collective imagination and co-creation for a more friendly city.

The general theme of RDW2024 aims to reconnect people with the city, especially its communities, seen this time from the perspective of the potential of local creative industries. The theme of the festival does not represent a selection criterion for projects in the RDW Exhibition 2024.
