Easter Mass in the Protestant Church and the ‘egg rolling’ tradition

Either the Anglican Church or Protestant Church don’t have a special service for the celebration of Lord’ resurrection. Actually, Easter celebration is reflected in the method of these churches, with some songs and readings of special ecclesiastical texts.

In Anglican Church, on Sunday, they often include special services. At the end of the service, Christians greet each other saying ‘Happy Easter to you’.

The Reformed Church doesn’t have a special service for the Lord’s resurrection, but on Easter Sunday, which all Protestant churches keep, the same day as the Roman Catholic Church, they introduce some special songs and prayers, which highlight this feast. The Pastor can choose the service from the Old Testament or the New Testament. Songs set for this day accentuate the Resurrection of the Lord.

Lutheran Church follows the same principles for the service which are related to the resurrection of the Lord. This church’s custom for Easter is that the altar’s table and the other liturgical objects to be wrapped in white cloth, which seems to be reminiscence for the Roman Catholic rite.

Egg rolling is an Easter ethnic custom closely related to Germans. This tradition used to take place in the Saxon district of Sibiu, Turni?or, near the Evangelical Church.

According to the Saxon tradition, Easter eggs were rolled by young Germans (before they went into the army). They collected eggs from the Saxon families, they put it on the street, and then they competed for the faster egg picker. The winner got a prize, but the most important thing, he was considered to be a good fellow in the community. However, the tradition was also kept by children, boys or girls.
