Over 3,000 Romanian and foreign artists will perform within over 80 events at the “George Enescu” International Festival in Bucharest and other seven Romania cities next year (September 2-24), the executive manager of the festival, Mihai Constantinescu informed on Tuesday.
He reviewed the main moments of the 2017 edition, which brings famous names such as Zubin Mehta, Antonio Pappano, Daniele Gatti, Valery Gergiev, Charles Dutoit, Riccardo Chailly, Michail Pletnev and Vladimir Jurowski, but also new artists.
According to Constantinescu, renowned Antonio Pappano will conduct Symphony no.3 in Do Major Op.21 by George Enescu, with the Orchestra Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia playing Enescu for the first time.
France’s National Orchestra conducted by Christoph Eschenbach and with Truls Mork as soloist will perform Enescu’s Concert Symphony for cello, a work that the famous orchestra also opened the 2017 season in Paris.
The artistic director of the 2017 Enescu Festival, famous conductor Vladimir Jurowski told an online video footage that the opening concert will be “Oedipus” opera by George Enescu in concert version, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by him.
A major moment, a first in Romania, is Imaginary – an interactive exhibition about maths and music, part of the Creative Bucharest project within the 2017 Enescu festival, as Oana Marinescu, the communication manager announced. The audience will be able to interact with various works of art, 3D sculptures, devices made by artists and mathematicians, which will illustrate the way mathematics can create some of the most beautiful forms of art.
12 concerts will be held overall in the country, in Iași, Brașov, Cluj, Timișoara, Bacău, Ploiești and Sibiu.
As a first, the passes for the 2017 Enescu Festival will be put up for sale on December 5, 2016, at 10 a.m., while the tickets-on February 16, 2017, at 10 a.m., through Eventim.
