French director and screenwriter Claire Denis is guest of honor at NexT International Film Festival due in Bucharest during April 15-19.
She will come for the first time in Romania to hold an open masterclass in front of the students of the Film University on April 19, starting 12:30 at Elvire Popescu cinema in Bucharest.
The latest of her shorts “Voila l’enchainement” will be screened at “Arthouse Shorts” section of the festival.
Author of over 20 movies, most of them awarded at Cannes, Berlin, Venice and Locarno, Claire Denis was born in France in 1948, but spent most of her childhood in Burkina Faso, Senegal and Cameroon where her father was working as an employee of the French colonial administration. This African period deeply influenced the style and stories of her movies, depicting a world of politics and personal history.
Her debut feature film Chocolat (1988), a semi-autobiographical meditation on African colonialism, won her critical acclaim.
