The fifth edition of the International Experimental Film Festival (BIEFF) kicks off in Bucharest on Wednesday, December 10. Moviegoers have the opportunity to see four shorts at CinemaPRO and Elvira Popescu Cinema until Sunday, December 14.
2014 international competition is set to find truth among lies in a bold thematic mockumentary-style program entitled “Alternative History: Lying To Tell The Truth”.
Paraphrasing Jean Cocteau’s quote “I am the lie telling the truth”, the four movies are relativizing notions such as true or false, reality and fiction, taking the viewer out of his comfort space and challenging him to face the surrounding reality from a more critical point of view.
Screened at Venice, Toronto and Rotterdam, Redemption is unveiling the collective mechanisms of building up the public figures and the universal history. Controversial voice-overs (ascribed to politicians such as Silvio Berlusconi and Nicolas Sarkozy) are overlapped to the archive images.
Forever is analyzing the radiations emission and the Soviet propaganda after the Chernobyl disaster in April 1986, focusing on the story of a young girl’s adolescence.
The Buried Alive Videos is a video clips compilation ascribed to an alleged ex-Soviet artist group who are conflicting to the wide cultural values and who isolated themselves turning into cultural zombies. Directly attacking capitalism and throwaway society, director Roee Rosen tries to erase taboo element out of sexuality or religion. The short was awarded the XX1 Prize at the International Film Festival in Rome.
The Shadow’s Share starts from the myth of the photography as art which is killing its own story little by little. The movie is analyzing the pains, obsessions and, most of all, the grotesque works of the missing photographer Oskar Benedek.
