Filmmaker Tudor Giurgiu, the first Uber rider in Cluj

Starting August 4th, 9AM, riders in Cluj can tap a button and get a ride through the Uber app. Tudor Giurgiu, director and president of TIFF festival, is the first one to have tried uberX in Cluj.

The service will be available at promotional tariffs, to celebrate the launch in the second Uber city in Romania. First trip for new users is free, with promo code UberinCluj.

Uber, the ridesharing application which connects riders with drivers who want to share their car, is now available in Cluj Napoca. Those who haven’t tried the service before can take the first ride for free, up to 40 lei, if they make an Uber account and use the promocode UberinCluj. For instance, a trip from the airport to Unirii Square downtown will be approximately 20 lei.

The first rider who tried the application in Cluj is Tudor Giurgiu – awarded director and producer, Eisenhower Fellow and President of TIFF – Transylvania International Film Festival. “Looking back at the beginning of TIFF, I can say Cluj Napoca developed a lot in the past years – it is now a dynamic and modern city, ready to be the European Capital of Culture in 2021. I use Uber everywhere in the world. Uber technology offers a safe and reliable transportation option which our city needs, both for those living here as well as for the tens of thousands of tourists coming to Cluj each year.”
