Gheorghe Zamfir pan flute in Christmas gig on December 18

Pan flute musician Gheorghe Zamfir will perform in Christmas show at Sala Palatului in Bucharest on December 18, along with famous artists such as actor Dan Puric, violinist Eugen Sârbu who brings Stradivarius violin from London, soprano Alexandra Coman who performed with Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras, Madrigal chamber choir and “Gheorghe Zamfir” National Orchestra, conducted by Florin Totan. The program of December concert includes Romanian folk remakes, famous international songs, but also performances by Dan Puric. The show belongs to the “Destination Romania” project that promotes Romanian famous brands with the help of the internationally renowned Romanian artists.

Zamfir is known for playing an expanded version of the traditional Romanian-style pan flute of 20 pipes to 22, 25, 28 and 30 pipes to increase its range, and  for obtaining as many as eight overtones (additionally to the fundamental tone) from each pipe by changing the embouchure. Arguably known as “The Master of the Pan Flute”, Zamfir signed over 300 folk, chamber, choral, instrumental and symphonic compositions. He has sold over 120 millions of records all over the world, he has over 160 recorded albums and over 100 gold and platinum records.
