Krakow-based trio Kroke to perform at Balkanik Festival

Krakow-based trio Kroke representing Poland at this year edition of the Balkanik Festival will perform in Bucharest on September 9. The trio’s music reminds of the diverse musical traditions, seldom inspired also by the klezmer music.

Kroke, representing the ethnic music stream has been present on the stage for 15 years. The trio, founded by three friends graduating the Music Academy, whose name means „Krakow” in Yiddish, started by making music inspired by klezmer, but, in time, it relied on other various music sources and created their own artistic language, capitalizing, among others, the Orient music or the Balkan music.

Kroke consists of Jerzy Bawoł (harmonica), Tomasz Kukurba (viola) and Tomasz Lato (contrabass).

The Kroke performance is due on Sunday, September 9, starting 19:30hr.

The Polish Institute in Bucharest, partner of the Balkanik Festival, is co-financing the Kroke concert.

This is the second performance of the band in Romania this year. In June, the Polish trio has been invited at the Jazz in the Park festival in Cluj.

Balkanik Festival returns to Romania for the 8th edition at the Baneasa Royal Railway Station and Youniverse Summer Club in Bucharest during September 7-9, with artists from Albania, Israel, Poland, Turkey and Romania expected.
