Mercedes-Benz Bucharest Fashion Week 2024, the most important fashion event in Romania, takes place between October 15-18, transforming the center of Bucharest into a vibrant catwalk with global echoes. The event brings Romanian design together with the great fashion capitals.
Among the event’s institutional partners are the Italian Embassy, Confindustria, the Italian Trade Agency, but also the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, organizer of Milan Fashion Week®. The event connects designers, buyers, publications, mass media and academics to support fashion in Romania and the region. The event brings together brands, local designers and potential international buyers, promoting “Made in Romania” on global stages. Eight international magazines from five countries and over 40 buyers and showrooms have confirmed their participation, along with designers from Georgia, Ukraine and Italy, but also stylists, influencers and photographers from four countries.
RUNWAY FASHION SHOWS
The newest collections of Romanian or Eastern European designers will be able to be admired in live shows, which will take place both in historic buildings and unconventional spaces, building a true fashion district in the center of the capital. At the Royal Palace, in the Throne room, the shows Litkovska, Gudu, Keburia, Murmur, Carmen Secăreanu, Rhea Costa, Ami Amalia, Katea Gri and Elena Reva will take place. The special guest of the first day is Romeo Gigli and the designer of the house Alessandro de Benedetti.
A spectacular show signed by Nissa will take place in the Marble Hall at the Casa Presei Libere. At S.E.N.A.T. Gallery will be able to see the Manuri collection, and Almaz creations are presented at Nicodim Gallery. The residence of the Italian Ambassador in Bucharest hosts the star show of the event, the collection of the famous international house Ermanno Scervino. These shows are dedicated to the guests of the event, but at the same time, there will also be events dedicated to the general public, in a carousel of unique experiences for Bucharest.
Fashion Area BFW
George Enescu Square becomes the central point for fashion enthusiasts for October 16 and 17, offering live streaming on a gigantic screen of all the shows within Fasion Week. Visitors can enjoy interactive activations, lounge and bar areas, together with the event’s partners.
The Mercedes Benz area will exhibit two automobiles, alongside a gallery exploring the connection between cars and fashion. Entry is free for people over 18, with registration at https://mbbfw.ro/fashion-area/.
EXHIBITIONS AND FASHION INSTALLATIONS
Fashion Space at Galateca, open to the public on October 16 and 17, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
A special installation titled Resurrected Wardrobe will showcase the creativity of five Romanian brands—V
, Borbala, ARSENE, VOL by Bianca Taban, and Medeea. They will exhibit pieces from their collections, as well as two upcycled outfits created in collaboration with Auchan. The Ukrainian brand Kacharovska, known for its quality footwear and accessories, will also be featured in the Fashion Space.
Moldavian Corner at Artmark, open from October 15-18, between 12:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Moldavian Corner highlights the unique identity of Moldovan fashion through creative installations. Designers such as Constanzia Yurashko, Valentina Vidrașcu, Yulia Efros, and Liudmila Storojuc offer refined interpretations of contemporary design, blending tradition with innovation and showcasing the avant-garde creativity of Moldovan fashion.
Fashion Panorama – The Italian New Wave, an exhibition curated by Vogue Italia, Galeria 2/3, open to the public from October 16-29, between 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM.
Fashion Panorama is a traveling exhibition that explores contemporary Italian fashion through the vision of 10 unique brands. In a world where fashion plays an increasingly significant role in shaping identity, these brands combine tradition with innovation, redefining Italian style. The exhibition reveals each brand’s personal universe, providing insight into their evolution and how they narrate the story of modern Italy.
Talk With a Stranger by Seen Users at MNAR – The Royal Lounge, open from October 16-17, between 11:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
The Talk with a Stranger installation invites visitors to reflect on the changes in communication in the digital age, highlighting the decline of phone conversations in favor of text messaging. The project explores the connection between fashion and art, challenging viewers to rethink the role of clothing in shaping identity.
EDUCATION AND SUSTAINABILITY
FASHION IMPACT Sustainability Conference, held on October 16 in the Royal Lounge of the Royal Palace, is a key event during MBBFW. It will bring together designers, producers, international sustainability experts, Romanian and Italian authorities, specialists in green claims regulations, as well as representatives from major multinational companies and KOLs dedicated to a sustainable future in fashion and lifestyle.
NABA Talks, a series of meetings with professors Valentina Torricelli (NABA Milan professor and founder of TrendingNOW) and Valeria Battel from NABA Milan, who will provide insights into the evolution of retail in the digital era. These sessions will engage students from UNARTE and UAD.
TRADE AND DESIGNERS SHOWROOM
On October 18, designers participating in Fashion Week will have the opportunity to discuss their collections with over 40 international buyers attending the event in Bucharest. These include representatives from major retail chains, department stores, and showrooms from Milan, New York, London, Paris, and Osaka.
