Moromeții 3, one of the most anticipated Romanian stories, launches the official trailer and reveals to the general public the most important dates of the cinema release calendar. The action of the film takes place in 1954, a trying year for Niculae Moromete who becomes overwhelmed by the tumultuous love with a married woman, the crisis of political consciousness and the loss of confidence in the literary guild. The providential appearance in his life of a young poet offers him a way out of his professional and personal dilemmas, inspiring him to publish the novel Moromeții.
The film will be released in theaters across the country on November 22. Before the official release, the distributor Transilvania Film, together with the film team, will organize one of the largest Caravanes in the country, the film will reach more than 50 cities, many of them without a cinema hall. The tour de force that will accompany the cinema release of the third part crowns a cinematic journey of almost four decades had by the first domestic family saga in Romanian cinema.
“We want the film to reach as many cities as possible in the country, even those without cinemas. This involves a major effort, but we are glad to be able to present to the public the finale of the Moromet trilogy. We will prepare several special events in Bucharest as well, the gala premiere will take place on November 12, at the Ion Caramitru hall of the National Theatre, we will return soon with more details. I am convinced that the film will be a great success among viewers, surpassing the records of Moromeții 2,” said Tudor Giurgiu, the film’s producer.
Directed by Stere Gulea and shot through the lens by cinematographer Vivi Drăgan Vasile, Moromeții 3 has already been shown on the big screens at several national film festivals (TIFF, TIFF Chisinau, Serile Filmului Românesc – Iași, Film in Sat – Peștişani , TIFF Timișoara), where the credits rolled to the applause of the spectators who filled the halls to see the end of Niculae Moromete’s journey. Winner of the Audience Award at TIFF 2024, the film can also be seen in September at TIFF Sibiu (14 September, 16:00, at Cine Gold, tickets: https://bit.ly/4d4gtvN) and TIFF Oradea (29 September, 19.30, Regina Maria Theatre), in the presence of the team.
The film’s script is an original one, signed by Stere Gulea, who was inspired by Marin Preda’s numerous entries in his diaries, but also from the historical archives about the period in question. “It is an image that covers the behavior and attitude of Marin Preda in the era, in political situations. I tried to understand, to intuit his itinerary and I tried to illustrate this essential journey, but using fiction. I liked the idea of making a film about those times that are now largely ignored; many events that happened then or immediately after, catalyzed by those moments, influenced the decades that followed, and we still feel their repercussions,” said the director.
The cast brings together some of the most appreciated and beloved Romanian actors, alongside young talents. In the main roles, viewers will see Alex Călin (Niculae Moromete), Horațiu Mălaele (Ilie Moromete), Olimpia Melinte, Mara Bugarin, Răzvan Vasilescu, Iulian Postelnicu, Cătălin Herlo, Dana Dogaru, Toma Cuzin, Ana Ciontea, Laurentiu Bănescu, Conrad Mericoffer, Ioan Andrei Ionescu, Andreea Bibiri, Ilinca Hărnuț, Dorina Chiriac, with the extraordinary participation of Oana Pellea.
The scenography is signed by Cristian Niculescu, while Dana Păpăruz is the creator of the costumes. The editing of the film bears the imprint of Alexandra Gulea, the sound was handled by Ioan Filip and Dan-Ștefan Rucăreanu, and the music of the film is the creation of Cristian Lolea. Filming took place last year in Talpa, Teleorman county (located only 45 kilometers from Siliștea-Gumești, the native village of the writer Marin Preda) but also in Sinaia, Bucharest, Golești and several villages around the capital. Already emblematic, the porch of the Moromets’ house is the same in all the sequences of the trilogy, being redone for the filming in 2017 and 2023.
The producers of the film are Oana Bujgoi Giurgiu and Tudor Giurgiu.
