Romanian painters Nicolae Tonitza and Theodor Pallady registered the highest scores in terms of sales at the recent Artmark Summer Auction, which prompted a total of EUR 500,000, with an awarding rate of about 80 percent and 107 canvasses.
So, Tonitza’s „Purity” was sold for EUR 60,000, while „Wild Roses” was purchased with EUR 13,000. Pallady gets about the same prices for his works: EUR 60,000 for „Violin and musical notes” and EUR 12,500 for „Static nature with flowers, fan and caryatid.”
Gheorghe Petrascu’s works „Woman with umbrella (Lucretia)” and „Static nature with books and red fan” were sold for over EUR 30,000.
The couple Georgeta N?p?ru? and Octav Grigorescu were also higly esteemed, the wife getting EUR 10,000 for her „Trojan Horse”, while her husband’s „City afloat” set a new record for the painter –EUR 5,500.
Artmark has a new exhibition and two auctions in store for early July, dedicated to the Art Nouveau style and to the new wave of Romanian artists famous abroad. The exhibition opens on June 22, while the two auctions are due on July 8, at Athénée Palace Hilton. The Romanian art season ends with the traditional exhibition and auction on the seaside.
