Nicolae Ceausescu’s gifts, on display in Bucharest, marking a century since the dictator’s birth

A permanent exhibition displaying items that belonged to Nicolae Ceausescu will run in Bucharest from January 26 (the birthday of former communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu) through March 1. The exhibition is carried out in partnership with Romania’s National History Museum, Romania’s National Archives, the National Museum of Contemporary Art and Dignitas Foundation, marking a century since Ceausescu’s birth.

The exhibition comprises over 80 items, gifts that former communist ruler Nicolae Ceausescu received on various occasions, including at his birthday anniversaries, such as portrait paintings, porcelain vases, the chessboard offered by Hafez El Assad, the former President of Syria, the replica of the famous Lahore Palace, aka the mirrors’ palace from Pakistan, a wooden screen carved in pearl offered by the North Korean regime, a gold-filled Quartz Seiko watch, a statuette representing the bronze vulture offered as a gift by ex-US President Gerald Ford, the famous Paykan Hillman – Hunter car, received in 1974, as well as other present received by Ceausescu in the last years of his life.

The exhibition also includes original documents, files, letters, cards and photo albums depicting Ceausescu next to his family members.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Ceausescu House, 50 Primaverii Boulevard in Bucharest.
