Romanian actor Radu Bânzaru will star in a film about German Chancellor Angela Merkel, playing Hungarian PM Viktor Orban. The movie action is placed in the summer of 2015 in the middle of the Syrian refugee crisis, when Germany was open to receive immigrants.
The lead role of Angela Merkel is taken by German actress Imogen Kogge, as The Hollywood Reporter revealed.
Radu Bânzaru, who will play Viktor Orban, was born on April 26, 1968 in Lugoj, Romania. He has become famous for his roles in The Whistleblower (2010), Toni Erdmann (2016) and The Death Triangle (1999), performing next to stars such as Rachel Weisz, Monica Bellucci or Vanessa Redgrave.
The feature film “Merkel” is directed by Stephan Wagner. Producers: Carte Blanche International and RBB and NDR German radio broadcasters.
The film is based on German journalist Robin Alexander’s bestseller “Die Getriebenen/ The Driven”, which presents the moment that market the most important decision of the German Chancellor’s career.
Chancellor Merkel has taken a surprising decision in 2015 when millions of refugees were fleeing Syria due to the civil war, by opening Germany’s borders for them. Although she was hailed for the moral side of her action during a crisis, Angela Merkel was affected politically by this step, which also led to the reinforcement of the extreme right wing in Germany.
