„Dogs” thriller, directed by Bogdan Mirica, has been nominated for the European Discovery 2016 trophy-Prix FIPRESCI, at the European Film Academy Awards. The 29th edition of the gala rewarding the performances of the European cinema is due on December 10 in Wroclaw, Poland.
The trophy is awarded each year to a talented filmmaker who made his debut in feature film. Bogdan Mirica was remarked in Cannes where he was awarded the FIPRESCI- critic prize, then at the Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) when he won the Transylvania Trophy, as well as at the Sarajevo Film Festival, where he got tho important prizes.
„Dogs” will race along Europene de Film. Liebmann (by Jules Herrmann), Sand Storm (by Elite Zexer), The Happiest Day in the Life of Ollie Maki (by Juho Kuosmanen) and Thirst (by Svetla Tsotsorkova). Nominations have been decided by critics and members of the European Film Academy, with the winner being voted by around 3,000 academy members.
The Romanian film lovers will be able to see the movie starting September 23, when the production will be in over 70 cinemas in 34 cities (Bucharest, Adjud, Alba Iulia, Bacău, Baia Mare, Bârlad, Botoșani, Brașov, Brăila, Buzău, Caransebeș, Cluj-Napoca, Constanța, Craiova, Deva, Focșani, Galați, Iași, Mărășești, Odobești, Onești, Oradea, Oravița, Piatra-Neamț, Pitești, Ploiești, Reșița, Sibiu, Slobozia, Târgu-Jiu, Târgu-Mureș, Timișoara and Vulcan). The film will also be in cities which don’t have a cinema as well.
A special preview on September 22 at the Summer Theatre in Herastrau park in Bucharest will bring the leading actors Dragoș Bucur, Vlad Ivanov, Gheorghe Visu, Raluca Aprodu, Emilian Oprea, Teodor Corban, Costel Cașcaval or Constantin Cojocaru next to director Bogdan Mirică in front of the audience. Gala screenings are scheduled in Iasi (Wednesday, September 21, at 6 p.m. and 20:30 at the Student House), in Târgu Mureș (Friday, September 23, 21:15, Palace of Culture) and Cluj Napoca (Saturday, September 24, 8 p.m. at Florin Piersic Cinema).

The movie’s action takes place near Romania’s border with Ukraine. Roman, a city young man, arrives in a remoted village in Dobrogea, where he intends to sell the land inherited from his grandfather who had died several months earlier. While he is moving for selling the estate, Roman starts, step by step, witnessing some bizzare events. A general threat sensation is in the air.
