Romanians take Berlinale 2015 by storm

Ada Solomon, “Aferim!” feature film’s producer enters the race for the Golden Bear, the great prize at the International Film Festival in Berlin, which kicked off on February 5. Ada Solomon will compete next to Jafar Panahi, Dardenne brothers and Juan de Dios Larrain.

“Aferim!” is a Romania-Bulgaria-The Czech Republic co production. The world premiere of the movie is due on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Ada Solomon actually comes back to the official competition of Berlinale two years after she won the first Golden Bear in the history of the Romanian cinema, for “Child’s Pose” by Calin Peter Netzer.

Ada Solomon is also the producer of director Radu Jude’s most important films.

Another Romanian, this time an actor, is also present at Berlinale 2015. George Pistereanu is starring in the Irish feature film “You’re Ugly Too”, directed by Mark Noonan. The movie was selected to compete in the “Generation KPlus” section”. Next to Pistereanu, the film distribution includes the Irish actor Aidan Gillen, famous for his Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish part in HBO production’s Game of Thrones. “You’re Ugly Too” was shot in Ireland. The film was released on Saturday, with Romanian Pistereanu attending the event.

George Pistereanu won the best actor prize at Stockholm Film Festival for featuring the film “If I want to whistle, I whistle” directed by Florin Serban.
