Christmas Unboxed, this year’s theme for the 17th edition of the Christmas Fair in Sibiu, will turn on its lights on November 15 and until January 5, 2025 it will shine again as a Christmas Capital, attracting all those who want to experience the magic of the season.
The Christmas Fair in Sibiu will shine this year in a new formula, offering visitors captivating experiences. The event will expand and take place in several places in the city. In Piața Mare, under an impressive installation of tens of thousands of lights, a terrace will be placed where visitors can enjoy the hot drinks and dishes from the fair. Also here you will find the panoramic Ferris wheel, 22 meters high, built especially for the Christmas Fair in Sibiu in 2019, and the natural ice rink set up in the center of the square. With an area of 600 square meters and a capacity of 300 people, it’s one of the main attractions every year. In Piața Mare, in addition to the 120 exhibitors and artisans who will enrich the Christmas atmosphere with products and objects, you will also find Santa’s Workshop, an experience adored by thousands of children every year.
A new adventure in Santa’s Land
Incredible adventures will be this year also in Piața Mică and Piața Huet, where the event expands with a series of specific activities. In Piața Mică, visitors will enjoy Santa’s Land, a Christmas universe dedicated to all ages. There will be a carousel and a children’s train, children will be able to take virtual rides with Santa’s sleigh and a spectacular wood cabin where visitors can rest and warm up. On the facades of the buildings in Piața Mică there will be colorful projections in the spirit of the Winter Holidays, spread over thousands of square meters. Further, the route continues in Huet Square where it will be possible to walk through a spectacular installation with illuminated trees.
“We are pleased to announce the 17th edition of the Sibiu Christmas Fair, which in 2024 will take place under the concept of Christmas Unboxed and will be a true celebration of discovery. This year, we bring an exciting mix of magic and new experiences. We used the space in Piața Mica to create a dreamy Santa’s Land and the decoration of Piața Huet with tens of thousands of lights reflect our enthusiasm for Christmas, consolidating the position of the Capital of Christmas in Romania. In Sibiu there is more than a winter fair, it is a love brand that gathers the local community and tourists from home and abroad around Christmas”, says Andrei Drăgan Răduleț, the founder and organizer of the Christmas Fair in Sibiu.
During the event, representative memorable activities will also happen again. Santa’s Workshop has a variety of activities for children, including paper making and mosaic workshops. Visited by an average of over 4,000 kids every edition, Santa’s Workshop becomes the place where the little ones can learn new things in a fun and festive way.
Artisans from outside the country, at this year’s edition
At this year’s edition of the Christmas Fair, there will be 120 exhibitors from 36 counties of Romania, but also from Israel, Hungary and Italy. Local and national artisans will be here with a variety of products, decorations, gourmet dishes and gifts. Registrations for the fair began in May and were completed in July.
As for the foodie experience at the fair, there is plenty of choice from local producers, from artisan cakes and traditional smoked and aged products to a variety of seasonal hot drinks including mulled wine, teas and hot chocolate . The selection of decorative objects and products will be considerably larger this year, following the expansion of the event’s portfolio.
More than 300,000 tourists are expected at this year’s edition. From the experience of the past years, the period in which the fair takes place represents the second tourist season of the city of Sibiu, when the demand for accommodation reaches the limit of the current offer.
The Christmas Fair in Sibiu is part of the Cultural Agenda of the Municipality of Sibiu.
The Christmas Fair in Sibiu was launched in 2007, being the first fair of its kind in Romania organized according to a European model and also the longest-running, being organized by the same team. The first edition was held in Piața Mică and brought together 38 local artisans and producers. Since 2009, it has been held in Piața Mare, reaching over the years a portfolio of 120 local, national and international exhibitors. The Christmas market in Sibiu is visited annually by more than 300,000 tourists from the country and abroad.
