Spotlight International Light Festival is kicking off in Bucharest today, with its third edition which is re-interpreting the urban landscape of the Capital city through digital art and multimedia. Spotlight 2017 is due April 20-23.
Every day during the festival, from 20:30hrs to 23:00hrs, Victoria Square becomes pedestrian area between the National Art Museum and Splaiul Independentei. Over 20 installations, projections and video mapping sessions will turn this area into a giant exhibition space.
Spotlight 2017 is kicking off on Thursday, April 20 in George Enescu Square at 20:30 hrs with the “Phoenix Fire Dancers” show performed by Phoenix Austrian company.
The architectural monuments on Victoria Square will be in the limelight, lit by laser projectors, while “The Time Guards” from Germany will keep watch over the columns of the National History Museum.
A video-mapping studio will provide passers-by with 2D and 3D animations, and a Fiat 500 will be turned into aquarium on Victoria Square turning off Franceza street.
Seven projectors with 3-D special effects will flood the CEC Palace into light.
The famous video-mapping on the Military Circle will not miss the show either, while the National Lottery building on Victoriei Square will host a thematic video-mapping for the first time.
Over eight icon buildings from the Central University Library, to the National Art Museum or Telephones Palace will be spotlighted.
Among the novelties of the 2017 festival, Art Safari will join Spotlight this year with replicas after Stefan Luchian, which could be admired on the Grand Hotel de Boulevard building.
Another first is the presence of MotionLab, nominated last year in the competition of the largest light festival in the world, The Circle of Light Festival.
Mobius Gallery will display an art installation in United Nations Square, while the musician and visual artists Tom Brânduș is racing in the festival with two multimedia installations made by Sylenz Media.
Road traffic on Victoria Square is restricted from Thursday to Sunday every night, between C.A. Rosetti and Splaiul Independentei.
