Asociația Culturală Eastwards Prospectus (ACEP) announces today the launch of the public art stage of the Accelerator program.
Between September and November 2024, the 5 artists selected in the program, Albert Kaan, Roxana Morar, Dumitrița Răzlog, Ioana Rusu and Mihai Savin, will present artworks in public space in several cities of Romania.
The inaugural performance by artist Roxana Morar will take place on September 22, 2024, in Baia Mare. The event will be held at the following coordinates: 47°41’30.6″N 23°47’41.4″E (a hill amidst a trekking road), beginning at 14:00.
“My work explores a variety of subjects related to matter, interaction, circulation, and images. I am particularly interested in conscious actions that consider and emphasize the multiple possibilities of an event. When it comes to objects, I am fascinated by the relationships we can form with them and how these interactions can influence our surroundings.” – Roxana Morar comments.
As Accelerator’s public already knows, the artworks in the public space produced within the said series deal with the research of several communities in Romania. The research approaches daily life or socio-cultural developments, as they are experienced in our society. These are reinterpreted through the lens of artists’ practice, and the audience is invited to connect with the artworks and find their meanings, triggered by artists and within the framework staged by them.
“We believe that public art is a valuable way for the wider public to experience contemporary art. Partnering with Roxana on this project in Baia Mare, a place she is closely connected to, is crucial. This personal connection adds a meaningful layer to the public and online documentation of the event.” – highlighted Georgia Țidorescu, curator of the entire series of Accelerator artworks in the public space
Before the stage we launch today, Art in the Public Space, the 5 artists in the program have undergone a mentorship consisting of workshops and 1-on-1 mentoring sessions. The workshops developed topics such as art in the public space, communication in the context of artistic practice, and the relationship between artist and curator.
“Back in 2021, when we started the first Accelerator program, we added a new strategic direction to the vision of Asociația Culturală Eastwards Prospectus. We have identified an opportunity to support emerging artists by providing them with knowledge, resources, and presentation opportunities, supporting, in an entrepreneurial manner, the acceleration of their careers. In Romania, art in the public space is still not experienced to its true potential. In a context where contemporary art, with all the existing efforts and projects, is still not very popular, the artworks performed in the public space are a means to bring art to the place where people spend their time, thus inviting them into the art world.” – states Andrei Breahnă, ACEP President and Accelerator project manager
“Accelerator. Mentoring and Art in the Public Space” is the 4th ACCELERATOR project, running from 2022 to 2024. In total, all Accelerator projects had the following results: 35 emerging artists benefited, over 280 applications, over 5500 people – audiences reached through direct interactions, and over 23,000 people reached online.
