One of the most important and popular TV brands in the USA, AMC films and series television will be launched in Romania on November 5th , replacing MGM Channel, AMC Networks announced on Wednesday.
AMC Networks Inc. (AMC Networks) is an American holding company substantially conducting all of its operations through its subsidiaries. AMC Networks owns and operates several of cable television’s brands delivering content to audiences. AMC Networks operates in two segments: National Networks, which includes AMC, WE tv, IFC and Sundance Channel, and International and Other, which includes AMC/Sundance Channel Global, its international programming business; IFC Films, its independent film distribution business, and AMC Networks Broadcasting & Technology, its network technical services business. The Company’s National Networks are distributed throughout the United States through cable and other multichannel video programming distribution platforms. In February 2014, Liberty Global PLC completed the sale of substantially all of the assets of Chellomedia to AMC Networks Inc. In July 2014, AMC Networks acquired Kinowelt Television GmbH, a provider of cable and other pay television services.
AMC/Sundance Channel Global, AMC Networks’ international division, and Liberty Global have announced several new deals with Liberty Global affiliates across Europe.
In addition to the recent deal in the Netherlands, Liberty Global and AMC/Sundance Channel will add new dimensions to the companies’ strategic relationship with the launch of Sundance Channel for the first time in Romania, while further expanding Sundance Channel’s growing distribution in Hungary with a launch on Liberty Global’s UPC cable system in that country.
In Romania, Sundance Channel will launch on the Liberty Global’s DTH platform, Focus Sat. Additional broadacasting in Hungary has also been made possible through UPC, the largest cable television operator in Hungary.
AMC Networks has announced in August its intention to transform MGM Channel television movies in AMC, starting this fall, as MEDIAFAX reported on August 4th.
Moreover, bundled AMC services, video on demand (VOD), High Definition (HD) and services like “TV Everywhere” will be available.
Original series like “Halt & Catch Fire” and “The Divide”, produced by AMC Studios, will be among the first to be internationally releleased this year.
In addition to the original program produced by its own studios, AMC Networks will broadcast popular, awarded movies, from the largest film library in the world, including MGM, Paramount and Sony.
In the past few years AMC redefined the dramatic stories on pay-tv approaching original film serials, such as «The Walking Dead», «Mad Men» ?i «Breaking Bad».
“We intend to copy our successful strategy from United States, to implement it worldwide and create a pipe as wide as possible for our original programs”, announced Ed Carroll, operating director at AMC Networks.
Currently, MGM Channel, one of the most popular film television (it came in Romania in October 2006) , is included in the UPC network, cable and satellite, but also on the grids of small and medium operators in Romania, therefore the subscribers to those networks can also see AMC channel starting November 5.
