‘The Ancient Gold and Silver of Romania’ on display at the Museum of Oltenia

‘The Ancient Gold and Silver of Romania’ opened on Wednesday at the Oltenia Museum, commemorating the 100 years of existence, exhibition organized with the support of the National Museum of Romanian History and 31 other museums in the country, each of them contributing with items that bear a special significance and historical meaning.

The exhibition includes more than 1,000 pieces of gold and silver, part of the ‘Historical Treasure’ of the National Museum of Romanian History and the patrimony of 31 museums in the country; among them there are the Treasure of Pietroasa: ‘Hen with the Golden Chicks’ and Dacian bracelets from Sarmizegetusa Regia, with an insurance value up to approximately EUR 70 million. The archaeological pieces, extremely valuable objects made of gold and silver were found on the territory of Romania.

‘This is the largest exhibition organized in this part of ​​the country in the past 20 years by the National Museum of History’, Ion Prioteasa, President of the Dolj County Council told Agerpres.

‘First of all, the Museum of Oltenia celebrates 100 years of existence and this is why we decided to organize this exhibition in Craiova and second, we organized this event to help promoting Craiova running for the title of European Capital of Culture 2021’, said Prioteasa.

According to Florin Radish, director of the Oltenia Museum, organizers have worked for about two years to get ready the Ancient Gold and Silver of Romania’ exhibition.

The temporary exhibition is open until January 31.
