Estonian-born American conductor Kristjan Järvi, chief conductor of the MDR Symphony Orchestra will be the honorary director of the RadiRo Festival in Bucharest due September 23-October 1. The festival, arrived at its third edition, is organized by Radio Romania.
The honorary directors of the previous two editions of the festival were Christian Zaccharias and Cristian Mandeal.
Kristjan Järvi is highly appreciated in Romania, following his first striking appearance in the opening of the 2015 edition of “George Enescu” International Festival.
MDR Leipzig Symphony Orchestra, the oldest radio orchestra in Germany in in Europe, will perform two concerts conducted by Kristjan Järvi in Bucharest.
In an interview to Radio Romania Cultural, Kristjan Järvi said he is very honored to receive this honorary position at the RadiRo festival.
“It’s a great pleasure to me to come in Bucharest accompanied by MDR Orchestra, as I was so welcomed here, surrounded by so much love. This world couldn’t exist without love and passion, without a real devotion, and music makes no exception. For me these things are 100 percent linked and I can’t wait to offer the best I can give to you,” he said.
43-year-old Kristjan Järvi is also a complete pianist. He graduated Manhattan School of Music and also took conducting courses at the University of Michigan. He began his career as Assistant Conductor to Esa-Pekka Salonen at the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
The concerts performed at RadiRo Festival have been taken over and broadcast on the joint platforms of the Radio Romania partners in EBU (European Broadcasting Union) and ABU (Asia – Pacific European Union), rejoining billions of listeners.
