George Enescu International Competition: Final exclusively for women in the violin section

Tonight, from 18:00, the Final of the Violin Section of the 19th edition of the George Enescu International Competition will take place at the Romanian Athenaeum. For those who are not in Bucharest or did not manage to purchase tickets in time, the event will be broadcast LIVE, on TVR Cultural, Radio Romania Muzical and also on the contest website – www.concurs.festivalenescu.ro.

Contestants Wakana Kimura (23 years old, Japan), Mayumi Kanagawa (30 years old, USA) and Hyeonjeong Lee (13 years old, South Korea) will perform in the final.

This evening’s program will include the Violin Concerto no. 2 by Béla Bartók, Sz. 112 major, Op. 35 (performed by Wakana Kimura), Violin Concerto no. 3 in B minor, Op. 61 by Camille Saint-Saëns (performed by Mayumi Kanagawa) and the Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77 by Johannes Brahms (performed by Hyeonjeong Lee).

The three finalists will be accompanied by the “George Enescu” Philharmonic Orchestra, at the lectern of which will be the conductor Alan Buribayev.

At the end of the concert, the jury, made up of violinists Dmitry Sitkovetsky (President of the Jury), Mihaela Martin, Liviu Prunaru, Silvia Marcovici, Shlomo Mintz, Boris Garlitsky, David Halen and managers Doug Sheldon and Benjamin Schwartz, will have the difficult task of judging the final competition (the fourth stage of the competition), at the end of which three cash prizes will be offered, the total value of which is 30,000 euros: First Prize – 15,000 euros net; Second Prize: 10,000 euros net, Third Prize: 5,000 euros net.

During the final, the Ștefan and Valentin Gheorghiu Award for the best performance of a Sonata by George Enescu will be awarded – 3,000 euros net, the Award for the best performance of the assigned work – B.A.C.H., Passacaglia for solo violin by Vlad Maistorovici – 2,000 of euros net, the Public Prize – 1,000 euros net.
The Audience Award in the violin final of the George Enescu International Competition will be awarded by the audience from any corner of the world who watched the final concert both in the hall and online, on the radio or on TV.
