The musical “Shrek”, one of the most famous and emotional stories of all time, winner of the Oscar for best animated film, returns to the stage of the Bucharest National Opera, on December 19 and 20, at 11:00. The cast includes established artists such as Dan Helciug, who will play the role of the grumpy but likable ogre, alongside Oana Laura Gabriela and Bianca Purcărea as Fiona, Adrian Nour (Donkey), Julie Mayaya (Dragonița), Andrei Petre and Ernest Fazekaș (Lord Farquuad).
The show is produced by the Bucharest National Opera and Musicals.ro, the same team behind other highly successful productions, such as “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Mamma Mia” and “My Fair Lady”.
Set in a mythical world from long ago, the musical Shrek tells the story of a giant green ogre who, after being mocked and feared his entire life by everything and everyone who crossed his path, retreats to a swamp to live out his life finding joy in isolation. His destiny changes as external factors force him to step out of his comfort zone, evolve, and ultimately begin to better understand the value of friendship and love.
“The musical Shrek will feature dynamic sets, elaborate costumes, characterful choreography, stage effects, lighting, and video that will give the show a contemporary feel, but also an aesthetic relevant to the digital world of our century. Shrek is a show for the whole family, which will amuse you, surprise you, but at the same time invites introspection and exploration of your own emotions. It is a show about friendship and the difference between appearance and essence, a metaphor for the transformations that humanity goes through, practically a new reaffirmation of the stories of our childhood”, declare the organizers.
Shrek will have a duration of three hours, with an intermission, based on the animated film of the same name produced by DreamWorks Animation and the book by William Steig.
The musical Shrek was originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Stree Productions. The minimum recommended age is eight years. Tickets for the show are on sale on the website of the Bucharest National Opera (https://operanb.ro/spectacol/shrek-musical) and start at 125 lei.
