On Saturday, May 17, 2025, more than 70 museums and cultural institutions across Romania will open their doors to the public as part of the 21st edition of the Night of Museums. The event, coordinated by the National Network of Museums in Romania and supported for the first time by the Ministry of Culture, offers free access to exhibitions, guided tours, and special activities.
This initiative provides visitors with a unique museum experience by extending visiting hours into the night and offering a special cultural program designed specifically for the occasion.
Night of Museums 2025 promises a one-of-a-kind cultural experience, transforming museums into vibrant spaces animated by unusual exhibitions, creative activations, and new forms of dialogue with the public. It is a special opportunity for people of all ages to rediscover cultural heritage in an engaging and accessible setting.
Inspired by a European model, the event is held simultaneously in over 30 countries. In Romania, Night of Museums has been organized since 2005 and has become one of the most anticipated cultural events of the year.
Thanks to the diverse museum landscape in Romania and the richness of its cultural heritage, the 2025 edition offers an ideal context for promoting education through culture, encouraging the sustainable development of the cultural sector, and strengthening the social role of museums. As such, Night of Museums serves as a strategic platform for audience engagement and for affirming the museum as an active player in community life.
The central message – Education through culture. Development through culture. – is reflected in all the event’s activities, helping position culture as a key driver in the evolution of society.
“Night of Museums is no longer just an evening stroll among exhibits. It’s a complex cultural phenomenon—a catalyst for curiosity and intergenerational dialogue. It brings history, art, and science closer to people in memorable and accessible ways,” said Ciprian Anghel Ștefan, General Manager of the ASTRA National Museum Complex in Sibiu.
Night of Museums is coordinated by the National Network of Museums in Romania and is a Cultural Project funded by the Ministry of Culture.
