TIFF trophy goes to Georgian story „My Happy Family”

The 16th edition of the Trasylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) has held its awarding ceremony at Cluj National Theatre on June 10. The TIFF trophy, worth EUR 15,000 went to „My Happy Family”, the Georgian story directed by Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Gross. The film’s image is signed by Tudor Panduru.

The closing gala was attended by the French icon Alain Delon.

The jury consisting in actress Clotilde Courau, producer Elizabeth Karlsen, film critic Geoff Andrew (Sight & Sound) and director Marian Crisan has awarded Guðmundur Arnar Guðmundsson the prize for the best direction for the Heartstone movie. The story has also caught the audience, being awarded the Public Prize.

Actress Ia Shugliashvili, in her first role, was awarded for the best interpretation in „My Happy Family”.

The jury’s special prize offered by HBO went to God’s Own Country, directed by Francis Lee.

Actors Haris Fragoulis and Iro Bezou, starring in Afterlov, were awarded the FIPRESCI Prize.

800 guests, spectators, journalists attended the awarding ceremony. The greatest guest of this edition, Alain Delon was awarded the prize for the entire career by Romanian actress Oana Pellea. The actor was very touched by the enthousiast welcome in Cluj, stating on stage that he had the chance to “have the most beautiful job in the world”. A memorable moment was when Delon bowed to a little girl who gave him a bunch of flowers, hugging her and advising her to choose acting when she grows up.
