Tourists invited to embark on the Sensory Map of Bucharest

The Sensory Map of Bucharest is a new cultural project representing a guided tour of the Capital’s recent and less recent history of some city’s sights. There will be eight tours on September 21, 23, 24, 29 and October 1,2, 7 and 9, at 7 p.m.

The tour is free of any charge with anyone being able to register at http://hartasenzoriala.com/tururi or by email at povesti@hartasenzoriala.com.

The maximum number of participants is 15 persons.

The Sensory Map of Bucharest is highlighting buildings that are seldom ignored by the passers-by, as they don’t know their past. Tourists will have the opportunity to explore old houses, less known to the Bucharesters, to listen to the stories of the people who brought them to live long time ago and to meet the people who are still living there.

“We’ll talk about music and listen to it, we’ll smell flavours, we’ll taste food and drink the same as they do,” the organizers said.

The sensory guided tour will also reveal stories and memories of some prestigious personalities of the Romanian capital, while discovering together the houses they lived in.

Performer and guide Paul Dunca will see visitors through the visual, acoustic, olfactory, tactile and gustative layers of some houses boasting a rich past, with the help of video and audio devices but also of some special guests.

The sensory tour has been included in the Bucharest’s official bid for the European Capital of Culture 2021.

The tour is special compared to other previous guided tours as it focuses on a well-grounded documentation, on stories and people, with the former and current dwellers being interviewed for that.

The project team consists in: Cristina Modreanu, project coordinator, curator; Paul Dunca, guide and performer; Maria Draghici, video artist; Ileana Szasz, anthropologist; Mara Mărăcinescu and Denis Bolborea, sound architects; Roxana Crişan, producer, Ioana Gonţea, communication.
