Romanian athlete Mihai Donisan, high jump national champion, will not compete in Rio Olympics, journalist Catalin Tolontan writes on his blog.
Donisan had been suspended by WADA three months ago for traces of meldonium, but was pardoned last week as the substance had been taken before December 31, 2015 and was not completely absorbed by his body by the time of the test.
Tolontan writes on his blog that, during the night of Tuesday, the head doctor of the Olympic team and the Romanian Athletics Federation have received information from WADA which forbids the Romanian athlete to compete at the Rio Olympics. A higher amount of meldonium was found in another test on Donisan, this time taken in February this year.
Donisan was already in Brazil, accommodated in the Olympic Village, when he received the news. For the time being, Donisan has made no comment in expectation of the official decision regarding the suspension.
