Australian Open: Tecau/Rojer and Mergea/Bopanna through to doubles second round

Romanian tennis player Horia Tecau and his doubles partner Jean-Julien Rojer (the Netherlands), the first seeds of the men’s doubles competition of Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, have qualified on Thursday for the second round of the tournament after defeating Martin Klizan (Slovakia)/ Sergiy Stakhovsky (Ukraine) 7-5, 6-2, in just 64 minutes. In the second round, Tecau and Rojer, are due to face the pair Benjamin Becker (Germany)/Dominic Thiem (Austria).
In another match, Romanian tennis player Florin Mergea and his doubles partner Rohan Bopanna (India), 4th seeded, also qualified for the second round on Thursday, following victory against Australian pair Omar Jasika/Nick Kyrgios, 7-5, 6-3. In the next round the two are to face Lukas Dlouhy/Jiri Vesely (Czech Republic), who have defeated Australians James Duckworth/John Millman 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-3.

In the singles event, the last Romanian tennis player in the competition, Alexandra Dulgheru, has been defeated by Angelique Kerber (Germany), 7th seeded, 6-2, 6-4.
