Boxing: Cristian Ciocan defends his European heavyweight WBO champion belt

Romanian boxer Cristian ‘Hammer’ Ciocan defended his title of European heavyweight WBO Champion on Saturday, in a gala held in London, after defeating by TKO in the seventh round Briton David Price.

The referee was forced to stop the fight in the seventh round because Price could not continue.

Ciocan (29 years) has a record of 21 victories (12 by KO) and four defeats (3 by KO).

Price (33 years, 2.03 m) suffered the fourth defeat (all by knockout) of his career, his record including 21 wins (18 by KO).

The boxer from Galati (eastern Romania) is unbeaten since 2015, when he lost by forfeit after eight rounds the bout against Tyson Fury in London.

Ciocan would defend again his WBO European title on March 25, in Hamburg.

Cristian Ciocan won the WBO European heavyweight title in October 2016, after defeating in 12 rounds Erkan Teper, (Turkey).

In a huge upset, heavyweight Cristian Ciocan (also known as Christian Hammer) (20-4, 11 KOs) defeated previously unbeaten #14 WBO Erkan Teper (16-1, 10 KOs) by a 12 round split decision to capture the vacant World Boxing Organization European heavyweight title on Saturday night at the G 18-Halle in Hamburg, Germany.

The decision was split 2-1:  116-112 and 117-112 for Ciocan and 115-113 for Teper.

The win for Ciocan was his third straight since his eighth round stoppage loss to Tyson Fury in February 2015. Hammer has since beaten Michael Sprott, Sherman Williams and Teper.
