Romanian tennis players Marius Copil and Adrian Ungur have won for the first time the trophy in Bucharest. In the final of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy the Romanian pair has defeated on Sunday 3-6, 7-5, 17-15 Nicholas Monroe (US)/ Artem Sitak (New Zeeland).
In his winner’s speech, Adrian Ungur dedicated the victory to his mother, who happened to have her birthday on the very same day.
Copil and Ungur, who have played in this event courtesy to a wild-card granted by the organizers, have imposed after one hour and 42 minutes, at the end of a dramatic game, decided at super tie-break.
They have played on this occasion their first ATP final and were rewarded with EUR 24,280 and 250 ATP points.
Copil and Ungur qualified to the doubles finals on Friday after defeating 6-4, 3-6, 10-6 the British pair Colin Fleming/Jonathan Marray.
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez has won the singles trophy on Sunday, after defeating Jiry Vesely 7-6, 7-6.
The match was interrupted shortly due to an event caused by a spectator allegedly under influence, who has been eventually taken out of the tennis arena. It seems his phone rang and the spectator answered the call by talking loud, digisport.ro informs.
