Bucharest Streets Closed on Sept 1 for L’Étape Romania by Tour de France Cycling Race

On September 1, Bucharest will host L’Étape Romania by Tour de France, the most famous cycling race in the world dedicated to amateurs and enthusiasts. The event will block important streets of the Capital starting at 07:00 in the morning, and they will be reopened to traffic after 2:00 p.m. For the third year, Romania is on the international map of the prestigious L’Étape event, offering competitors waiting at the start the unique experience of the champions right at home: a traffic-free capital, three exceptional routes, the highest standards of organization and a festive atmosphere that celebrates sport and belonging, with participants supported by family, friends, colleagues.

On September 1, traffic will be restricted starting at 07:00 in the morning until 14:00 on the following streets and arteries: Unirii Boulevard, Mircea Vodă Boulevard, Unirii Splaiul on the direction to Bucharest, Decebal Boulevard, Basarabia Boulevard, Calea Victoriei, Regina Elisabeta Boulevard, Schitu Măgureanu Boulevard, Știrbei Vodă and Ion Câmpineanu streets, Kiseleff Street, Buzești, Berzei, Vasile Pârvan, Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu streets and Libertății Boulevard. The organizers and the Traffic Police collaborate to identify the best detours.

Event schedule for September 1, activities in the Race Village at Constitution Square:

  • 07:30 – Start for participants registered in the 14 km City Adventure route from the Palace of the Parliament area.
  • 08:30 – Start for participants registered in the 42 km The Ride route.
  • 10:00 – Start for participants registered in the 85 km The Race route.
  • 13:30 – Award ceremony in the Race Village, with activities and surprises planned for both competitors and visitors.

There are three fueling points on the route that will ensure the optimal level of hydration of the competitors: one in the start and finish area, one at the National Arena and one in Piața Victoriei. Competitors also have at their disposal fixed technical support in the same areas as the hydration points and a mobile one, which will accompany the peloton throughout the race. A medical team with high professional training and extensive experience in emergency medicine will be present on site throughout the duration of the event.

SMURD ambulances (type C) will provide medical intervention in case of emergency and are equipped with all the medical equipment required by the regulations in force at the national level. The L’Étape Romania by Tour de France Race Village in Constitution Square will tell everyone the story of the legendary brand through a Tour de France exhibition and numerous sponsor activations, in a relaxing festival atmosphere that will transform Bucharest for one day , in the Capital of Romanian cycling.

Also here will be organized: a commercial area with a sports profile where the most important brands of sports equipment and nutrition will be present, a food court, a warm-up area for competitors, mechanical assistance for cyclists, a massage area, an awards area with a stage and numerous contests with prizes made by the sponsors of the event.
