Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games: Three more medals – gold, silver and bronze -for Romanian athletes in weightlifting and rowing

Romanian young athletes competing in Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games have won three more medals on Tuesday, one gold, one silver and one bronze, in weightlifting and rowing.

The gold medal was won by Sabina Baltag (photo – centre), in weightlifting, at the 53 kg category, with a total of 177 kg (77 kg in snatch and 100 kg in clean and jerk), followed by Kely Valentina Acero (Columbia) 176 kg and Nur Vinatasari (Indonesia) 162 kg.

Florin Nicolae Arteni-Fîntînariu and Alexandru Laurenţiu Danciu won the silver medal in rowing, in the men’s pairs in 1 minute 30 seconds and 64/100, behind Italians Alberto Zamariola and Nicolas Castelnovo, in 1 min 30 sec 30/100. The bronze medals were won by Felipe Modarelli and Tomas Herrera, in 1 min 30 sec 97/100.

Romanian rowers Tabita Maftei and Alina Maria Baletchi won the bronze medal in women’s pairs’ competition in 1 min 40 sec 29/100. The gold medal was won by Greece (1 min 40 sec), and the silver medal by the Czech Republic  (1 min 40 sec 09/100).

In the table tennis competition, Andeeea Dragoman has qualified to the singles semi-finals, after defeating Anna Janina Wegrzyn (Poland) 4-2 in the last sixteen round and Amy Wang (US) 4-2 in the quarter-finals. Dragoman will play against Miu Hirano (Japan) in the next round.

In the ranking on medals, Romania is 5th, on the same position with Colombia, with 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.

The Youth Olympic team of Romania includes 34 athletes, 21 in the women’s competitions and 13 in the men’s competitions, competing in 14 sport disciplines.
