German coach Christoph Daum (62) has arrived in Bucharest on Wednesday and may be appointed on Thursday as the new coach of the Romanian national team. He will replace Anghel Iordanescu at the helm of the national football team. The German will be officially presented on Thursday, digisport.ro reports.
Christoph Daum is expected to be presented in an extraordinary meeting of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) Executive Committee, which will begin at 18:00h. ‘Bild’ newspaper has announced the wage to be collected by the next coach, some EUR 1.1 million per year. The German has been proposed a two-year contract, having as objective the qualification to the World Cup 2018 in Russia. Exclusively for Digi Sport, Daum did not want to give specific details about the talks with Romanian officials.
Romania would be the first national team to be trained by Christoph Daum. In his 30-year career the German trained only club teams.
Daum won the title in Bundesliga with VfB Stuttgart in 1992 and the German Supercup with the same team a year later. He won the Turkish title with Besiktas in 1995, the Turkish Supercup with the same team in 1994, two consecutive titles with Fenerbahce (2004, 2005) and Event with Austria Vienna in 2003.
