Belarus has defeated Romania 3-2 on Sunday, in Minsk, the first round of Group 1 of Europe-Africa zone of Davis Cup, as in the last match Egor Gerasimov defeated Adrian Ungur 7-6 (5), 6-4, 6-4.
Romanian tennis player Marius Copil (photo) has defeated Ilya Ivashka on Sunday to level the score 2-2 of the match Belarus vs. Romania the first round of Group 1 of Europe-Africa zone of Davis Cup.
Copil won in straight sets 7-5, 6-4, 6-1.
Belarus led Romania 2-1 in after day two of the encounter in Minsk, following the defeat of the Romanian doubles pair Horia Tecau/Marius Copil by Max Myrnii/Iaroslav Shila 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4.
The match on Saturday lasted three hours and 15 minutes.
Tecau is 18th ATP in doubles, Copil is 381st, Myrnii is 25th ATP and Shila is 223rd.
On Friday Romania led Belarus 1-0 following Adrian Ungur’s victory against Ilia Ivashka in four sets, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in the first singles match.
In the second singles match also on Friday, Egor Gerasimov (24, 341st ATP) defeated Marius Copil (26, 129th ATP) 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
In the last match on Sunday, Adrian Ungur will face Egor Gerasimov.
Subsequent to this result, Belarus will play in the second round of Group 1 against Austria, whereas Romania will face the team of Israel (defeated by Portugal 0-3 in the first round) on September 15-17, 2017 in a decisive match to remain in value Group 1.
