Davis Cup: China’s tennis team to miss match with Romania due to the coronavirus outbreak

China’s Davis Cup tennis team cannot come to Romania anymore for the game in the play off of the World Cup of Tennis, who should take place on March 6-7 in Piatra Neamt, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the vice-president of the Romanian Tennis Federation, George Cosac has announced today.

The International Tennis Federation is to take a decision on the fate of the Romania-China game on Monday evening.
“The Chinese Tennis Federation has already sent the notice it cannot come for the game, they sent an e-mail to the international federation on February 7 (…) the international federation has the final call, they are the ones to decide of the game is delayed or China is losing the match. But it’s difficult with the delay, for the Chinese have not asked for a delay, they just announced they cannot leave China until the end of April due to the Coronavirus. The delegation was made of 16 people“, Cosac said.

Romania’s Davis Cup team was to meet China in the World Cup I play off in Piatra Neamt, Romania, on March 6-7, according to the drawing in October last year.

If Romania wins the game of March 2020 will play another play-off in September 2020.
