Davis Cup: Romania 1 Poland 1 after day one

The tennis teams of Romania and Poland have won one match each on Saturday, the first day of the encounter in the third round of the Davis Cup’s Europe-Africa Group.

In the first match, Romania’s Marius Copil (27, 81st ATP – photo) defeated Kamil Majchrzak (22, 187th ATP) 6-4, 6-2.

The second match of the Davis Cup play-off was won by Hubert Hurkacz (21, 95th ATP) against Adrian Ungur (33, 674th ATP) 7-6 (3), 7-5.

On Sunday the doubles match will take place: Florin Mergea/Horia Tecau vs. Lukasz Kubot/Marcin Matkowski.

The last singles matches are to be played also on Sunday: Copil vs. Hurkacz and Ungur vs.  Majchrzak.

The two teams have played against each other five times, Poland leads 3-2.

The winning team will promote to Europe-Africa Group I.

In the first two round of the competition this year, Romania defeated Luxembourg 4-1 and Morocco 5-0.  Poland defeated Slovenia 3-2 and Zimbabwe 4-1.
