The match between the men’s tennis teams of Romania and Luxembourg, counting for the first round of Group II Europe/Africa Zone of the Davis Cup, will take place during February 3-4 in Piatra Neamt, the Romanian Tennis Federation (FRT) has announced on Tuesday.
In mid November, FRT President George Cosac and Vice-president Razvan Itu travelled to Piatra Neamt to discuss with the local authorities the option that Romania vs. Luxembourg is played in this town.
It’s a first for Romania to face Luxembourg.
At the end of October, Romania was defeated 5-0 by Israel at Ramat Hasharon in a play out match for maintaining in value Group I Europe/Africa. Without basic players such as Marius Copil, Horia Tecau and Florin Mergea, Romania demoted after 24 years of Group I in Group II (the third world echelon).
The best known Luxembourg tennis player is Gilles Muller, 25th in the ATP rankings.
