eSuperliga, the first official esports league affiliated to the Romanian Professional Football League, kicks off

The most important virtual football competition in the history of Romania starts this week. eSuperliga is the first esports league officially affiliated to Romania’s SuperLiga, where top clubs will be able to demonstrate their skills in the EA FC game with the help of the 16 players designated to represent them and compete for prizes and bonuses of 130 thousand euros.

eSuperliga benefits from the support and involvement of the Professional Football League, as well as of the clubs active in the championship. Thus, the 16 teams playing in the 2024-2025 season in the Romanian Superliga will also be present in eSuperliga. FCSB, Dinamo București, FC Universitatea Cluj, Unirea Slobozia, FC Petrolul, Universitatea Craiova, Gloria Buzău, FC Botoșani, UTA Arad, Poli Iași, FC Rapid 1923, Sepsi OSK, FC Farul Constanța, AFC Hermannstadt, SC Oțelul Galați and FC CFR 1907 Cluj will be represented by the 16 best EA FC players in the country.

Each club will have an esports team consisting of one main and one reserve player, who will play EA FC 25 matches in a 15-leg league, with matches taking place at Super League stadiums. Thus, fans can experience the thrills of football both on the pitch and in virtual matches.

“This is a first for Romanian sports: Superliga, Romania’s football championship, has own an official championship online and we are convinced that it will generate just as much excitement and passion in the virtual environment,” said Justin Stefan, General Secretary of the LPF.

The eSuperleague competition will be divided into 3 phases:

Phase to identify the best players of the moment: In August, two tournaments open to the public will take place, where each of the participants has the chance to showcase their talent. The format of these tournaments will be single elimination, with the best players having the chance to be noticed by the official representatives of the Superliga clubs. Players who will not be part of the official teams will enter a reserve pool.

Regular season: The 16 chosen players will represent the Superliga clubs and will play matches in 15 official rounds that will take place live from the stadiums of the Superliga teams at the same time as the official league matches. The winner of the stages will be crowned the eSuperleague champion, with the final prize being distributed to all those who took part in the competition according to the final standings.

Final Event: At the end of the 15 rounds, the top-ranked teams in the regular season will have another chance to take revenge or be champions again in the final event.

The total prize money of the competition is 130K euros and is divided as follows: regular season prizes are 40K euros, final event prizes are 20K euros and the bonus fund totals 70K euros.

“In Romania, there are more than 100.000 EA FC (FIFA as the game was known by virtual football fans) players and we invite all fans of the game to sign up for the most ambitious esports competition ever organized in our country. For those chosen to represent the 16 clubs from Romania, prizes and bonuses are guaranteed, regardless of the place in the regular season. Players will be able to ride across the country with their fellow players and enjoy the atmosphere of Romania’s official championship matches. eSuperliga can represent the start of their career as professional EA FC players! And it is not only them who stand to benefit, but also the sport in our country. With the development of eSuperliga and the sustained growth of esports divisions, clubs will be prepared for international esports championships, including the 2025 Esports Olympics, World and European Championships, and other major leagues.”, said Mihai Cotos, eSuperliga organizer.

During the 15 stages of the esports championship, there will also be mini championships for the public, where those who come to the stadium to support their favorites can participate in these unofficial competitions with prizes.

Players from across the country can enter the qualifying round. They must be at least 16 years of age, own EA Sports FC 24 on one of the supported platforms, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S, and have an account on Battlefy.
