European Games: Catalin Chirilă and Victor Mihalachi, gold medalists in Canoe-2, 1,000 meters

Romanian rowers Catalin Chirila and Victor Mihalachi have won the gold medal in the Canoe-2 on 1,000 meters, on Wednesday, at the European Games in Minsk.

Chirila and Mihalachi were timed of 3 min 40 sec 919/1000, followed by Ukraine (Iuri Vandiuk, Andrei Rîbaciuk), 3 min 41 sec 692/1000, and Russia (Kiril Shamshurin, Ylia Pervuhin), in 3 min 42 sec 547/1000.

This was the second gold medal of the Romanian delegation in Minsk, hotnews.ro informs.

Romania’s balance sheet is now two gold medals, two silver and four bronze medals. The gold was won by Laura Georgeta Coman in the 10-metre air rifle event and by Cătălin Chirilă and Victor Mihalachi at 1,000 m Canoe-2.

The silver medals were won by Dacian Barna and Andreea Bogati in the mixed doubles in the aerobic gymnastics contest, respectively Ovidiu Ionescu/Bernadette Szocs in table tennis – double mixed.

The bronze medals were won at sambo by Daniela Poroineanu (category 56 kg), Anda Mihaela Vâlvoi (64 kg) and Alina-Petronela Păunescu (+80 kg), and at aerobic gymnastics – group (Gabriel Bocşer , Mihai Alin Popa, Dacian Nicolae Barna, Dorin Marian Brotei and Andreea Bogati).

The second edition of the European Games are taking place in Minsk, Belarus, during June 21-30, and feature 15 sports, with the participation of 4,022 athletes from 50 countries. For three sports the competition will equal the European Championships and the results in eight sports will count on the road to the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo.
