European Junior Swimming Championships: Romanian athlete David Popovici wins the gold medal in the 50 meter free event

Romanian young athlete David Popovici has won the gold medal in the 50 meter free event, in the European Junior Swimming Championships in Rome, Italy, on Sunday evening, timed at 22/100 seconds.

Popovici, a qualified athlete in the Tokyo Olympic Games, was followed in the final ranking by Russian Nikita Chernousov, 22 sec 83/100 and Israeli Martin Kartavi, 22 sec 92/100.

David Popovici had also won two gold medals, in 100 meter and 200 meter free events, as well as a silver medal, at the 4×100 meter relay, with Mihai Gergely, Stefan Cozma and Patrick Dinu competing.

Overall, the Romanian delegation won three gold medals and a silver medal in this championship.
