Fed Cup: Halep, Niculescu, Begu, Dulgheru – Romania’s team against Germany

Simona Halep (6^th WTA), Monica Niculescu (32^nd WTA), Irina Begu (34^th WTA) and Alexandra Dulgheru (97^th WTA) have been nominated for the Romanian team to play in the Fed Cup World Group play-offs in Cluj Napoca against Germany, Romanian Tennis Federation (FRT) informed on Wednesday.

“The Romanian Fed Cup team for the matches against Germany is made up by the currently most in shape players. Simona Halep, Irina Begu, Monica Niculescu and Alexandra Dulgheru are happy and proud to once again represent Romania’s colours against a strong team. We are a homogenous, poised and optimistic team, ready to fight to stay in the World Group. The matches will certainly be hard fought, given that Germany is a solid team, but we believe in our chance and in the devotion of our girls. We want to thank our fans for cheering us on and we are gladly waiting for them in Cluj-Napoca, where we felt excellent this February,” non-playing captain of Romanian women’s tennis team Alina Tecsor said.

Germany’s non-playing captain Barbara Rittner has unveiled the German line-up for Cluj-Napoca: Angelique Kerber (2^nd WTA), Andrea Petkovic (28^th WTA), Annika Beck (40^th WTA) and Julia Goerges (58^th WTA).

The Fed Cup World Group play-off in Cluj-Napoca is scheduled for April 16-17.
