Romania has defeated Canada on Sunday in the first round of the Fed Cup World Group II and will play the next round for qualification to World Group I.
Irina Begu defeated Katherine Sebov 6-2, 6-4 and increased the score to 3-0, in the Polyvalent Hall in Cluj-Napoca.
Begu (27, 37th WTA) won in one hour and 25 minutes in front of the 19-year-old who is 319th WTA. Sebov replaced Carol Zhao on Sunday, defeated on Saturday by Sorana Cîrstea.
In the doubles match, the Canadian pair Gabriela Dabrowski/Carol Zhao won 4-6, 6-1, 10-6 against Ana Bogdan/Raluca Olaru.
On Saturday, Sorana Cîrstea (27, 38th WTA – photo) defeated Carol Zhao (138th WTA) 6-2, 6-2.
In the second singles match of the day, Irina Begu (27, 37th WTA) defeated the Canadian player of Romanian origin Bianca Andreescu (17, 173rd WTA) 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.
