Florin Segarceanu, Romania’s non-playing tennis captain, has announced the women squad for the FedCup match of Romania against Canada. Simona Halep, Sorana Cirstea, Irina Begu and Raluca Olaru will represent the Romanian team in the confrontation at the ‘Polyvalent Hall’ in Cluj-Napoca.
The team of Romania: Simona Halep (2nd WTA), Sorana Cirstea (36th WTA), Irina Camelia Begu (37th WTA) and Raluca Olaru (45th WTA in doubles).
The confrontation against Canada will take place on February 10-11, 2018.
The winner of this meeting will play in April a match to promote the Fed Cup’s first value group salon, and the defeated team will play further to remain World Cup II.
Romania has defeated Canada 3-2 in its last direct meeting in April 2015. Romania also defeated Canada in 1983 (in Zurich), 3-0 (in the World Cup first round).
