Football official claims Manchester City showed interest in Ianis Hagi

Manchester City is in the footsteps of Ianis Hagi, and the 20-year-old footballer can be the protagonist of a spectacular transfer.

Viitorul Constanta football club’s director Cristian Bivolaru said Manchester City wants Ianis because coach Pep Guardiola is very interested in the young Romanian midfielder, ziare.com reports.

Bivolaru argues that City wanted to transfer Ianis Hagi and then loan him in Spain to Girona and, if the player confirms, he would go under Guardiola’s command at Manchester City.

“I repeat what has been said so many times, his interest as player comes first. Everybody wants him to go to a team where he plays with a coach to include him in his strategy for the next 2-3 seasons. A 20-year-old player does not go out to sign a contract for a year or two. Barcelona wanted to transfer him and then to loan him. The same with Manchester City, there was huge interest from Guardiola. It was a business in three, to loan him to Girona, but Girona has relegated from Primera. There are many possibilities. Ianis is now training with our team and it is normal for him to know the next steps,” Bivolaru told ProX TV private broadcaster.

On Monday, Viitorul Constanta President, football legend Gheorghe Popescu, admitted Ianis Hagi has received offers from Spartak Moscow as well as from Barcelona. The transfer offer from Barcelona was turned down because the Spanish team wanted to buy the player and loan him to another club.

The clubs rumoured to be interested in Ianis Hagi were Genk, Borussia Dortmund, Spartak Moscow, Sevilla and Ajax.
