Romania’s national football team defeated Lithuania 1-0 (0-0) Wednesday evening, in a friendly match played in Giurgiu, at ‘Marin Anastasovici’ stadium, as part of the preparations for EURO 2016.
The first half was one without important scoring opportunities.
After the break, substitute Nicolae Stanciu scored 20 minutes into his senior international debut to give Romania victory in an otherwise flat display against a well-organised Lithuania side. The first half was very even and Lithuania almost snatched a 43rd-minute lead when Lukas Spalvis’s excellent free-kick was saved by Costel Pantilimon. Steaua București midfielder Stanciu was introduced at half-time and his long-range strike made it a dream debut. Fellow substitute Andrei Ivan forced a save from Zubas and Cosmin Moţi’s header went just wide. Romania host Spain on Sunday, uefa.com informs. The match will take place in north-western city of Cluj-Napoca.
