Gymnastics: Larisa Iordache suffers injury, will miss the World Championship in Montreal. Nadia Comaneci – the event’s ambassador

Romanian gymnast Larisa Iordache will miss the World Gymnastics Championship in Montreal after getting injured on Wednesday, according to the Facebook profile of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation (FRG).

‘Larisa Iordache has suffered an injury while warming up and is out of the Montreal World Championship. Diagnosis, broken Ahilian tendon. Her health is all that matters now. Be strong Larisa!” reads the message posted on the social network.

“The tendon is broken. It must be operated in the country. We’ll try to get back sooner,” said coach Cristi Moldovan, quoted by the Facebook page of the Dinamo Sports Club, the gymnast’s club.

As of October 5, the World Gymnastics Championship will be broadcast by the public television (TVR 1). As Larisa Iordache is injured, Romania will be represented only by Catalina Ponor and Marian Dragulescu.

Gymnast Catalina Ponor has recently announced, in tears, that she will withdraw from gymnastics right after the event in Montreal. “With or without a medal, I sadly announce that I will withdraw from activity,” Ponor said. Her career started in 2003.

According to stiri.tvr.ro, the viewers in R. of Moldova can watch on TVR Moldova the summaries from the World Gymnastics Championship.

This year’s ambassador of the championships is former gymnast Nadia Comaneci – the ‘Montreal goddess’ in1976.
